Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization and the Omrah Saadat Institute are preparing several operational scenarios to prevent delays to the forthcoming Umrah programme, according to the institute’s managing director, Nasrollah Farahmand. Speaking at a planning and coordination meeting in Tehran chaired by Seyed Abdolfattah Navab, Farahmand said the implementation model would be adjusted to comply with programmes and instructions issued by Saudi Arabia as the host country. Iranian officials are also pursuing the foreign currency allocation needed to finance both Umrah and Hajj operations, allowing registration, flights, accommodation and pilgrim services to proceed once Saudi requirements are finalised. The meeting, however, did not disclose the proposed departure date, the number of pilgrims expected to travel or the substance of the alternative operational plans.
